CSTA Celebrates Canada's Ranking as the World's #2 Sporting Nation

2014 Global Sports Nations Index Ranks Canada as Number Two

Ottawa - The Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA), an organization with 400 members including 142 municipalities, over 200 national and provincial sport organizations as well as product and service suppliers to the industry celebrates the recent Global Sports Nations Index which ranks Canada as the number two sporting nation in the world.

This Global Sports Nations Index 2014 is produced by Sportcal, a global sports market intelligence agency, and is based on in-depth analysis of over 450 major multi-sport games and world championships over a rolling 12-year period, covering six years in the past and six years in the future (2009 to 2020).

Rick Traer, CEO of the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance commented: "With one of the CSTA’s key objectives being to market Canada internationally as a preferred sport tourism destination, this Index ranking of #2 in the world proves that the work of the Canadian sport tourism partners is indeed paying off. They understand the impact of positioning Canada as a world leader in hosting sporting events, and we look forward to working together to place Canada at the top of the list in the near future."
